Words are only as powerful as people make them.
Imus is a fool for thinking that something was acceptable to say such as that. He took away from the accomplishments of those young women, and brought them into the spotlight for something so stupid. I think it was just as much a slam against women as it was a slam against blacks. I mean really - judging an athletic team by how "cute" the players are? I don't hear anyone judging the Lakers by that, or the Yankees. But the fact they are women, Imus thought it was proper to assess their appearance, as opposed to their talent as athletes, and their accomplishments as students.
He should be fired, and then he should never be able to speak without someone bringing this incident up for the rest of his life.

i grew up in a mostly black neighborhood and according to my neighborhood verbage what imus said was not racial. it was just a way to describe people with unkept hair. and cracker was the worst or the one i heard thrown around most.
