My husband and I are doing the Southbeach diet, but diet isn't really the word for it. Both my GP, RE, Nutritionist and Acupuncturist agree that it is a great long term lifestyle change that will promote good health and weight loss. It has also been proven positively affect women with PCOS. You eat plenty of good, healthy, and filling foods - even when you are in the strict phase. And that only last 2 weeks. Should you conceive, you baby doesn't start "mooching" of your diet until a little later. You would be fine to start it. And after the restrictive phase it is a great diet to stick to while preggers. You need carbs as a part of your diet, Southbeach just helps you do choose good ones with benefit vs. bad ones. Good Luck!

I was on the Atkins diet, and I lost a total amount of 40lbs. While on the Atkins, my sister told me to be careful, because I may end up pregnant. Well..... after 3 months on the Atkins, there I was pregnant for sure!!! I don't know what it is, but losing weight, if you're overweight, does have an effect on your body, especially if you're trying to conceive. You may need to ask your doc about that. Now, as far as staying on the South Beach while pregnant, I don't think that's a good idea. You should NEVER stay on a diet while pregnant. Your doc should tell you that you are supposed to gain weight, not lose while pregnant. If you are not gaining weight, trust me, your doc will find a way for you to gain. It's not healthy for you or your developing baby!!!

To Purplebinky: Her doc is not an idiot. You need to research the South Beach Plan before you comment. Did your doc recommend it because you have irregular periods and are having difficulty conceiving? If so, he is right. You may have PCOS, which has to do with insulin resistence and prediabetes. The South Beach has been proven to help women with PCOS to regulate their periods and help them to conceive. I have been following the plan for 3 months for weight loss. It is not a diet and you are not starving yourself or limiting good nutrition. You are eating lots of veges, proteins and good fats. You are learning to live without the bad fats, sugars and carbs, although this is NOT a low carb plan. You also will learn how different foods affect your blood sugar and how digestion works. I am giving you this info because I know about the plan and have been following it. If you don't know anything about it, don't comment on it.

crash diets and losing huge amounts of weight rapidly like that aren't healthy for a developing fetus or for you, Mom.
Plus the are nearly impossible to stick to in the long run because they are so restrictive.
If losing weight it that important, wait until you lose it to try to conceive. Or consult a dietician for healthy eating program while pregnant and TTC. Also, start taking prenatal vitamins now if you are TTC.

Now everyone can cure infertility using this natural remedy http://pregnancyhelps.info
infertility can run in the family and one of the first things the doctor asks you when you go to a fertility clinic is your family history regarding cases of infertility or other reproductive issues.
If infertility is caused by genetic disorder then it's not unusual that one of the kids (your mom) doesn't have it and another does (your aunt).
two months of trying is still to early to be concerned about the fact that you might be infertile and it's also quite early to go to a fertility specialist. Go to a regular Obgyb to get a closer insight and see what ways there are are to improve your fertility rate.
Also remove alcohol, caffeine and cigarettes from your life because they might influence your chances too. Stress is also a risk factor when it comes to infertility.

My wife and I did SouthBeach for over a year. It's safe. We actually ate healthier foods. The only problem I had with it was some of the artificial sweetners were causing me memory and concentration problems -- but that has nothing to do with the SB diet -- I should have stuck with Splenda and saccharin.
To do SBD right, you need to do phase I. If you just want to eat healthier and maintain your pre-pregnant weight, you can probably skip phase I, but it's not that hard to do phase I for two weeks.

Your doctor is an idiot! I would highly suggest reading this, and print it out and give it to him. You shouldn't be dieting at all during the TTC months! If you want to lose weight before you get pregnant, you should do this about a year in advance, and stay on birth control until you have lost the weight and are at an optimal weight to conceive.
