Only if the parents can be called in to do it

As much as i would like to say yes!! i think in this day and age it would unsafe to do so!! Teachers are no longer seen as someone to respect and look up to or to be feared. If corporal punishment came into our schools in this day and age we would only see a huge rise in the number of stabbings/shootings of teachers. Kids would take revenge on the teacher that struck them!!

I also think teachers would be reluctant to hand out punishment of this kind due to fear of retribution from the kids!! Basically it just would not work in practice!! Times have changed!!

The Problem with that is, when I was little we got hit on the hands really hard with a ruler or on the butt with a huge paddle, but as we got into higher grades it was to the office and your parents were called to the office and had to pick you up. When I was little I never did anything bad so I think that wasn't necessary.
But,, I think if the parents had to leave work to come and get their kids from school or they were suspended and the parents had to deal with them at home instead of them being at school then the parents would take more action.
I behaved very well and respected any adults because I knew if my parents were called I was going to get the hell beat out of me with a belt! I think the problems with all these out-of-control youths starts at home and would end there if more parents would put the fear of god in their kids starting at home.♥

No, hitting kids doesn't prove anything. But, there has to be some way that teachers regain control. They have to be able to dole out extra homework and detentions and picking up litter and other things that happened in my day without being undermined by bolshy parents demanding that their kid isn't the problem and the cocky little buggers knowing their 'rights' to have it all their own way.

How you would do that I don't have a clue but the teachers need to get their punishment powers and some respect back somehow.

Um, yes,but with stricter rules on it...for example...... if they believe my child needs "pops" then I can come and do it.
But, these days, there are so many other alternatives that it really isn't needed..... maybe as a last resort.
I guess......
Because, when I was a kid..."pops" were handed out left and right w/o them ever even calling your parents.I had so many pops for things like laughing or talking in class, forgetting my homework and once i got a spanking for missing 5 questions on a test...i was only in first grade.
And now I'm a mom...so I feel like...........No one is going to spank my child like that, I can not trust them not to abuse my child/their rights.

Think about it, these teachers are with your child 8 hours a day,in the same damn room being driven crazy by about 20 kids.Do, you REALLY want to hand them a stick to hit the kids with?
That would be like handing a terrorist a big ole BOMB.
lmao

lmfao @ wise one

Most definitely, restore discipline in the schools for young kids , and the crime rate will go down slowly, but surely.

Nah. More kids would just drop out of school. I know I would if anyone ever came after me with a ruler or something. Screw that, man...

I almost dropped out because I had a 2 weeks of 'in school suspension'. I'm not good with authority and I tend to give up and want to walk away from it all.

it would seriously reduce the disclipine problem teenagers have these days. if their parents arent going to try and control them it should be up to the schools. it never did any kids in the past any harm and it sure made them think about what the consequences of their behaviour would be.

No, If a teacher ever hit my kid they'd have something else coming from me. How about taking personal responsibility. Disciplining my kids is MY job. If more people would actually do that, kids would behave in school and it wouldn't be needed.

Definitely. We still had it in my day and the threat of it scared us sh*tless.
Schoolkids today know that they have all the power. And look what's happened.
