Been hearing a lot about global warming...the earth is getting closer and closer to the sun. Funny, the bible said we would die by fire (hell). Anyways, anyone know what the prediction is for when the earth will hit the sun? Think Ill see my grandchildren first?

I think you still have a good chance of seeing the grandkids. The sun is about halfway through its life cycle--it has about another 4.5 billion years to go. When it goes, it will expand so far that it will swallow up Mercury and Venus, and cause life on the Earth to die from the intense heat. The global warming is a bigger threat. Greenhouse gasses produced by our overuse of oil-based fuels are causing the oceans to heat up. In North America, the ocean currents flow from the Pacific Ocean, across the Artic Circle, down the Atlantic into the Antarctic. Because the air is warming, it is moving faster. When it flows across the Arctic, it causes the ice cap to melt, and the normally mild Arctic air in turn becomes faster and warmer. Because it's faster, it's also causing more turbulance across the Atlantic, causing more storms. There's a lot more immediate danger to us from that than the death of the sun.

The Earth is not getting closer to the sun. The sun will expand to engulf Mars, Venus, and Earth. The sun has a life span of 10 billion years. Scientist estimate it is 5 billion years old now. So in 5 billion more years, the sun will expand and life on earth will cease to exist. Hopefully, we would have found a way off this rock.

Global Warming is not the result of the earth moving closer to the sun. So yes, you will see your grandchildren first.

The Earth is not going to hit the sun.

Global warming is caused by an increase in greenhouse gases
like CO2, CH4, etc. which trap heat in the atmosphere.

The Earth has 5,000,000,000 years or so left until the Sun goes into its Red Giant phase, blows up like a big baloon and expands out past the orbit of Venus.

Relax, do you your homework.

Well, first off, global warming is a bad joke, made popular by people like Al Gore. The current trend is a natural cycle.

The earth isn't moving closer to the Sun, but still being sucked into the Sun maybe a possibility but not probable.
And most believe that won't happen. Quite a while to go according to most experts but then many of them agree with Al Gore so what do they know?

Could be tomorrow, next week, next year, a couple hundred years, until the earth is gone. Personally I believe mankind will destroy the earth as we know it, soon. The US, England, Russia, Israel, Pakistan, India, and China have enough nuclear weapons to destroy the earth 100 times over and I believe that will happen. Not a question of if but when.

The sun is still in the steady state and it will continue to be in this state for another five billion years. The sun will enter into the red giant stage after the steady state. The sun in its red giant stage, will swallow up mercury and venus and the earth will be burnt in the heat.

The earth won't go to the sun! It's the other way around!
The sun will expand to a red giant and engulf the earth including mars! But you don't have to worry about that - 5 Billion years to the future, you won't be around!

Okay brainiac...global warming has NOTHING to do with how close the Earth is to the sun!

In a couple billion years, the sun with supernova and swallow the earth...I'm pretty sure you'll see grandkids before that.
