Absolutley not. Especially with Lastings Milledge waiting in the wings, they should move him and his excessive contract.

Only if you use some of that money to invest in a DeLorean and go back in time five years and pull that Shawn Green into the present. Otherwise, it's yet another of the stupid deals the Mets have put together in their nearly half-century of incompetence. With all the talent they've had on their rosters, you'd think they'd have more than 4 Pennants and 2 World Championships. Transactions like this are why they don't.

Skipping the issue of whether or not ANY baseball player... or any HUMAN BEING is worth $11,833,333 a year... especially when valuable social contributors like Firefighters and Police officers make less than 1% of that... I'll just answer the question.
Pure and simple, no. Back when Green was a threat to hit 40 homers and drive in 100 runs every year, he was. Now, he's not.
Additionally, am I the only one who finds it mysterious that his last offensively dominant season came in 2002... the year that Steroids became such a big issue?
And in 2003 the guy came into camp 20 lbs lighter... and hit 20 homers less than in 2002?
This guy aged VERY fast... didn't he? Looks washed up at 34... looks like the juice strikes again.

Of course not, but is Barry Zito worth 15 mil a year, or Gil Meche worth 11 mil a year, or J.D. Drew worth 14 mil?
In free agency, players always get more than they are worth based on previous performances. Thats why you need to develop a strong farm system(see the Oakland A's and Minnesota Twins).

You asked about Furcal too. No these baseball players are not worth that much money a year. The federal govt. should be investigating where all of this money is coming from and regulate the salaries of these players. This is probably not legal but if oil companies are being eyed to give back part of their profits the ball player can be looked at. Way over payed.

The Mets are not paying Green 11.8 a year. They are paying him around 5 I believe (other teams are picking up the rest). Remember, a few years back Green was a monster with 40 HR power... as per usual, his money is outlasting his talent. He is a decent player and will get a few mil for a contract if he continues to play next year (probably not with the mets though)

No, but he was worth that much after his 1999 season with the Blue Jays where he hit .309, 42 HR's, 123 RBI's, 20 SB's in 153 games.

Yes he is. Every player is worth what they make, because if they weren't, they would be out of a job right now. No owner is dumb enough to throw away $11 million for someone that he feels isn't worth it.

Who is he? What sport does he play? Is he a top star or a lack luster player? If the answer to either 1 of these question is No, then no hedoesn't deserve it.
