Throwing rice at weddings is actually a Chinese custom and it symbolises fertility to the couple.
People throw rice at the couple after the wedding but there was this Urban legend in the US that throwing rice at weddings harms birds, cuz the birds eat the uncooked rice and it expands in their stomach and their stomach explodes and they die. So the americans switched to throwing confetti at weddings instead of rice. Now there is another American custom, they attach a ribbon to a car with bells and empty cans of hotdog and tuna so when the car moves the cans and bells make noise.

I think your question should be. If Lebanese throw humus and pita bread at weddings, do Americans throw hamburgers?
BTW what is up with the whole shooting guns in the air to celebrate thing? Don't tell me it is cultural. Guns have not been around for even a 100th the time as your culture. Or did you historically shoot arrows in the air in crowded cities?
