I put a coffee cup of water in there and turn it on for 1 minute. This steams up the microwave and helps loosen any stuck on food.

Then I spray with my regular kitchen cleaner, and wipe it out with paper towels.

If you ever have an odor in the microwave, you can do the same thing with the cup of boiling water, but add a wedge of lemon.

If your microwave has not been cleaned for awhile and there are food particles stuck to the inside....place a cup of water in the microwave. Microwave on high for a couple minutes. The water in the cup will allow steam to form inside the microwave thus softening the particles stuck on the microwave walls etc. Be careful with the cup of water as it can be very hot if left too long. Remove cup and wipe clean with a damp cloth. If you want a fresh smell in the microwave, add a lemon slice to the water before heating and this will freshen the microwave as well.

I use hot water to clean my microwave. If it's been a while since my last cleaning I will use your normal kitchen cleaner, wipe dry then wash out with warm water and dry it again. Above someone memtioned microwaving your sponge. I've never heard this as a way to clean your microwave but I do know that if you put your sponge in the microwave on high for 30-45 seconds it will heat it up enough to kill bacteria and disinfect the sponge!

I forget where I go this idea I think on TV. Take a wet sponge put the sponge in the microwave. Turn microwave on high for 2 minutes. Be careful not to get it out right away it is real hot. I let it go for a bit then I carefully take the sponge out and the microwave oven is steamed and I wipe the microwave down, cleans it right up.

Take a wet dishcloth and place in center of the microwave. Turn on high and allow the cloth to sort of cook for about 30-40 seconds. Then let cloth cool down and wipe out the microwave.

Deodorizing the microwave.........

place a bowl of water in it and add 3 or 4 slices of fresh lemon or 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. Cook on hig for 30-60 seconds. For really bad order like burnt popcorn place vanilla extract in a bowl and cook on high for 30 seconds. Leave door closed for 12 hours. Then remove bowl and wipe out the Microwave.

Mix some Dish-soap in warm/hot water. Dip a wash cloth or a Dish towel in the soap water.

squeeze it lightly. Rub your microwave with it... put more pressure on old spots. You have to wet the wash cloth again and again as needed.

After all is done, take some clean warm/hot water. Now, clean again with the fresh water. Then you have to wipe the microwave with either dry wash cloth OR with a tissue. Now you r all done.

(you can take the water as hot as you want -- but you should be able to squeeze the water from the wash cloth. That's all)

Just put a couple of tablespoons of baking soda in a microwaveable cup of water, bring to a boil for 5 minutes and wipe clean.

Dampen a dryer sheet and use it to wipe clean.

I use the steam trick similar to previous answerer's. I boil a cup of water for three or four minutes then wipe it out with a sponge. I think I'll try the wet towel idea next time, it might cause steam faster and hence burn less energy resulting in a lower cost cleaning method.
