People - like siblings - insisting that I have contact with them simply because we had the same parents and becoming annoyed with me when I keep myself to myself.

People - like my boss - who try to insist that because I live on my own and have no immediate family in the same town I have a full Christmas dinner at work (I'm a carer) with my colleagues. Every year I tell her, I don't particularly like dinners, I don't eat dinner and why would I want to be at work when I don't have to. Last year I was a double shift and had to be there at lunch time; she and the chef were convinced they had me backed into a corner this time. I was going to get a dinner and there was nothing I could do about it (they know I abhor wasting food).

On Christmas morning, I looked our chef in the eye after he told me - again - that he'd been told I was to have a dinner and told him that I would throw it out; I won and I had the beautiful, crisp and delicious tossed salad I'd brought with me.

People - like colleagues - who assume that because I live alone, have no close family or friends in Sunderland and never go anywhere, I'll be ever so grateful for any crumb of socialising they offer me because I live a sad life.

I don't I love my life. I've done the being out there thing, probably a lot more than they have. I've written to and received replies from celebrities, prime ministers and The Queen. I've been invited to the Palace and met Her Majesty in person.

I've been on stage and marched in parades more times than I can remember, I've been on television and in print and have produced my own magazine for years - they know this one, it's the company magazine.

I co-ordinated a ministry and was a prison visitor for a while, I've written to people all over the world and met the most amazing people who have given me some very unusual gifts. As a teenager, I joined an archeological group aimed at young people and went on digs around the North East, whilst being in bands and drama groups etc.

I've been to college and earned several qualifications that were fun, although not terribly useful - I'm going to finish my Russian one day. And now, I have the world at my finger tips in my own sitting room.

And they think that going to the local pubs and clubs is the height of excitement. I think not.

At the moment, yahoo! Just had an intimidating email threatening to close my account on the grounds that - I quote - 'You MAY have been in violation of our community guidelines' (Emphasis mine)!
