Think of it the opposite way to figure out what to do in this problem. Let's say the the regular price is x and when u take 15% off the regular price you only pay .85 * x =sales price. So if you are given the sales price, you divide by the .85 to get the regular price... 29.75/.85 = 35, answer C

C you take the answers it gives you then * times .15, what you get from that you - from the answer you used to see if you get $29.75. this is what i did:

35*.15=5.25 35-5.25= 29.75
40*.15=6 40-6= 34 so D did not gave you the answer you wanted. A was lower than than the price so that could not be it. and B was just a little higher so that could not be it! I hope this help!

85% of x = 29.75
0.85x = 29.75
so x = 29.75/0.85 = 35

answer C.
