I have a dynamic Ip...This link below:
http://www.trap17.com/index.php/changing-dynamic-ip_t9198.html

Has very clear instructions on how to change my IP. I tried it, but it didn't work, I think its because on one step, when it said that the internet diconnected, instead I got a message saying my internet has limited or no connectivity, and it says something about a local area connection, and I have a wireless network connection. Check out the link, its really short and quick, and can you tell me what I'm doing wrong or what else I can do.

Please I've been trying to change my ip address since last year, and I couldn't figure out how, I need help!!

This was added later at the bottom:

If you are on an ISP with little activity you may still get the same IP back. The IP addresses are assigned from a pool that the ISP has set aside for dynamic IP addresses. If you use "ipconfig /release" you should wait a couple of minutes before you type the "ipconfig /renew" that way your old IP should be assigned to another user and you will get a new IP address.

If you have a problem with an IP address because others on your ISP are misusing the service. Write a small batch file for the commands and run the "ipconfig /release" from the command line at night before you shut the computer off. Then the next morning when you start the computer you will be assigned a new IP.

One problem, I don't know how to write a small batch file for commands, I just know how to go to the cmd box and type in the whole ipconfig /release and renew. Any ideas? Suggestions? Help Please! :(

I'm not really sure why you want to change your Dynamic IP. In fact, with many ISPs, your IP isn't really dynamic. You just tell your computer that it should ask for an IP instead of using one it already has. No matter what you do, you will end up with the same IP.

If you are IP though a NAT router, the router may have a limitted IP pool, or there simply isn't enough traffic on it for your previous IP address to be in use when you renew, so it assigns it to you again.

Limited or No connectivity with an XP computer means something is wrong with your connect, usually because you don't have an IP or password for the network. When that happens you have no connection and are technically offline.

Your IP address is set by a DHCP server. Usually it assigns IP addresses and give you a "lease" on them. So you'll generally have the same IP address for a set amount of time (usually 30 days). Manually trying to assign an IP address usually doesn't work because ISPs will reject you if you don't have their server assign you an IP address. The article you link to is more geared towards home networks, not the internet.

Why do you need to change your IP address? Because there may be an easier way to accomplish what you want with the same IP.

You are allocated an IP address automatically by your ISP, this is a public address and it is Illegal to touch it. It is normally dynamic and can therefore change at intervals. Then your router allocates a dynamic address to your PC, this is an internal, private address. This you can do what you like, but as you just found out fiddling with it can stop your connection. You should set it back to automatic setting, you should get back on-line. Why do you want to change it anyway? It won't help.

wow you really don't understand this whole DHCP thing now do ya , you can sit there from now untill the next election day doing all of this and not a damn thing is going to happen , your ip is given to you by your isp , your isp has a string of ip's it uses the DHCP server gives you the first open one in it's list . how ever just changing your external ip is not going to unblock you from sites that your blocked at , because the block not only sees the IP but also the domain . so lets say your ISP provider is Verizon . and IP given to you from the dhcp server is still going to point to Verizon .. and thus you will still be blocked

You have asked this question several times. Changing your physical IP address won't help. That is not what they are blocking. They are blocking the IP address set by the ISP!!!!

Research proxies..... Set your browser to use a proxy.....

Your probably going to have to bypass your ISP's proxy. Just changing your proxy settings probably won't work depending on your ISP. Your out of luck because nobody should tell you how to do it.

I'm confused.

Dynamic IP means your IP changes everytime you go offline.
