Iraq was created in 1921-22 out of the old Ottoman Empire which existed from around1400 to 1920.
Before the Ottoman Empire it was controlled by a variety of Muslim rulers.

Originally Kuwait was a province of Iraq and was split off in the 1950s for the oil.

In 1952 a guy named Mossadegh was elected ruler of Iraq but our CIA had him killed and the Baath party took over and was supported by our govt. Eventually Saddam Hussein rose to the top.

Start with just after world war 1. There was no such a thing as Iraq prior to WW1. This 'long history' must be preserved right? [let them split into 3 countries, who cares].
