The IB is generally extremely well accepted by colleges in the States. It serves to prepare students very well for their college experience and lets them, consequently, succeed more often in their studies - which is why colleges like the program so much.
If you have aspirations of going to a good college, IB will certainly help you get there. It will be extremely stressful, but it will teach you how to THINK, instead of mindlessly solving the same problem over and over again.
With papers, oral examinations, internal and external assessments, and then exams at the end, it is certainly a long haul. Don't be fooled by the exams! They are more challenging than anything you've ever experienced (~75% is a 7, the top score, on the mathematics higher level exam - that's a C in most schools). Your exam scores contribute a great deal to your final class score, which determines your reception of the IB diploma (ie. you need > 30 points to receive it - I'm not sure of the number exactly).
And by the way - most colleges grant credit hours for IB exams, so you won't have to retake basic courses.
In my opinion, it was completely worth it.

International Baccalaureate (IB) is completely college-prep and would be almost a guarantee of your getting into a good college. At least in the high schools in my area, kids have to have top grades to get into the IB program and are considered the smartest kids in the system. Yes, it's a lot of work, but if your goal is getting into a good university, you would have quite an advantage.

I don't know about you, but from personal experiences, if you have the brain for it, go ahead and take IB classes. I recommended that for my nieces and nephews. Reasons?? Because it help prepare you for college. If you aced all your IB classes, you will for sure get into college level courses when you attend college.
I took IB courses from freshman to senior year. I even took some IB exams (exams aren't that important, depending on what you are aiming for). Because of that, when I took the placement tests, I score high enough to get into college calculus for the math courses.
