Hi, I'm doing a research project, and I wanted to know how many people who live in the south feels as though racism is alive and well. I am originally from NY and I have been living in the south for about two years now. I can say from my point of view, it is alive and kicking down here. Can anyone offer me any more input on this for my project? I appreciate all respones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some places are pretty bad. The majority of the south is really good.

The south has gotten a bad rap for being racist. But the north is often worse. I am from oklahoma and every once in a while you hear of something awful happening to someone because of their race. But, I have seen just as much if not more come out of the new england states.

Racism exists anywhere there's more than one race of people, honey, it ain't just down South. Frankly, if I had to say, I'd say it is worse up north because I've heard a whole lot more Yankees call somebody a n****r or a s**c or a c***k, etcetera than I have Southerners, then too, most of us were raised well enough that if we can't say something nice, we won't say anything in polite company.

Every Where. Let me tell you one thing, and you be the judge.

In the south, King had a fire hose turned on him, in Chicago, they hit him with a Brick. Enough said. Don't pick on the South, till you clean out the north. My professor at Univ of Ill, he was from Tenn. He said he had never seen the level of racism in the south that he found in Central Illinois.

Sure it does, I live in Philadelphia, Pa and travel to small town Georgia once every two months to see my daughter and grandson, and although I know it's there, I think racism is more prevalent in places like Brighton Beach, NY or Boston.

It is alive in the south, north, east, west, you name it. It is committed by blacks, whites, spanish, middle easterners it is in essence a way of life and has always been so. One can claim to have no prejudgements but they would be lying to you. It is within our natural instincts to have a fear or to be weary of people and places. It doesn't make things bad, it just makes segregationism (if that is a word).

Unfortunately, racism still exists everywhere. I live in California and am constantly appalled by people who feel that it is alright to make racial slurs in front of me and who continue to do it even after I have asked them not to.
