Does shaving hair make it grow back thicker and faster, because i have been shaving my chest for the past few months and it seems as if it is at least growing faster, but maybe its just all in my head

It does this because youre shaving your chest but not all hair on your chest if dark and noticable. So when you shave youre cutting those hairs off too and it grows back dark like the rest.

It will grow faster because youre cutting it off at the stem, not getting the bulb. If you want great results, waxing will keep you bare for weeks.

it actually does not grow back thicker and/or faster. Hair normally grows in with a nice fine tip. When you cut it, you are making the end blunt. So it gives the appearance of being thicker, though it is not. See two articles attached. Personally, if the Mayo Clinic, very respected medical clinic, says that it doesn't, I tend to believe it.

If it were true, if you were going bald, shave your head and find out out. It would in theory grow back thicker. However, it is not true.
