Jamie that's a great idea. It looks good on you. I would suggest a second language. A romantic language like French or Italian. (they are easier to learn) That would certainly get you out to meet people. I mean you gotta practise somewhere don't you?
So find some tutors, and self tutoring tools, then look for the local French, or Italian sector in your city. Go to the little Italy part of your home, or the French section, trust me, someone who knows a language you want to learn will be more than happy to befriend you, and help you.
It will look great on your resume as well.
All the best to you Jamie T.

It depends on what your interests are. What do you get enthusiastic about? Maybe you can start by getting to know people online to build your confidence by talking about common interests. Just Google a topic you like to talk about. There are discussion boards about everything you can think of.

Someone mentioned dance, but it could be any hobby. If you are creative, maybe just take a crafts class at Michaels. Do you like sports? Join a softball team...etc....

Being shy is a choice. Past action doesn't have to decide the future in this case. Only your present can, and you decide that during each moment as it comes.

A good hobby if you want to get over your shyness would be to take some art or dance classes. How about belly dancing?!
