The main reason is that liberals (and real conservatives, for that matter) realize that there is no such thing as "Islamofascism", that it is a term coined by the Bushies in the attempt to provide an easy and pat image of our enemy, and to imply that it is somehow the same enemy we fought before. The Bushies themselves have stopped using the term, because some level heads around the White House pointed out that Islamism and Fascism are fundamentally incompatible, but some people persist in using it, presumably because they know little about Fascism or Islam.

As far as "fighting them over there instead of over here" is concerned, the two are not mutually exclusive. In fact, the more we do of the former, the more likely we make the latter.

Why can't cons understand how completely immoral that position is. What you are saying is we are going to fight the terrorists on someone elses land, resulting in the deaths of untold numbers of civilians. All of which is OK because it isn't Americans who are being killed. While all of this is going on we're rationalizing it by saying we're bring them freedom".
Why don't you say it the way it really is. We're going to let the "islamofascists" kill innocents over there instead of over here.

The probelm is that they do understand but, if we keep sending more and more troops, we will have no one to protect us. Don't think for a moment that terrorists are not here in the US, they just have not acted yet. They were here before 9/11 and they are still here.
Are we going to depend on all the illegal immigrants to protect us? That's a whole other issue.

How are they going to get over here? There are not a well organized bunch. Terrorists are not organized under a flag, they don't wear uniforms, they don't have a fleet of ships and / or aircraft to get them over here. I do wonder, though, when all of our standing army plus the national guardsmen are over in Iraq and there is nobody here to protect us, what's to stop the "Islamofascists" from coming over here, when we are vulnerable?

You can take your think-tank talking point argument and cram it you know where. That idea is complete BS. It's not like Iraqis or Al Qaeda are going to come over to the US en masse, bringing their weapons with them on planes to attack us. It's just not going to happen. Won't things like the Patriot Act and Wiretapping make that impossible?

Do you really think they're going to come over here and fight us on our own land? That's ridiculous.

They want America to become a battle ground maybe? Could you imagine a Liberal during a war on our homeland. It just brings memories of the French quite honestly. Do you think liberals would still protest the war with bombs dropping around and what not. Or do you think there would be a mass exodus to Canada?
