They did an excellent job hosting the World Cup; Germany's first time hosting was equally wonderful, however, it was more fantastic this time due to the advancements in technology. The new Stadiums, the giant screens in public parks, all helped make this World Cup a true party. They spend enormous amounts of money and I am pretty sure they gained it all back including some profit.

Yes, they did. For years they prepared for the event and added all new technologie, even expanded stadiums. They had the events under control to a T, made it festive and unforgettable events for the teams as well as their fans and the German population. Aside from the minor incidents involving those rude and rowdy hooligans (English fans), everything went as smooth, as can be. In my opinion, hooligans ought to be banned from soccer matches outside their country (England) Germans take special pride when it comes to soccer; as soccer to them is what baseball is to the majority of the American population. The ran special buses and trains throughout the entire "Weltmeisterschaft" (world cup). I doubt that any other country can top it. Unfortunately, they didn't go as far as the fans would have liked, but with the large number of guestworkers in Germany (like turkish, italian, latin americans, etc.) the Germans were supportive of their teams, once the German team was eliminated. Now that is what I call sportsmanship, and I seriously doubt that any other host country would have handled it likewise. Oh, and in case you are wondering, I was born and raised in Germany :) Hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.

If you are talking about the team, yes, they did. But like Brazil, they always do well with the mediocre teams they have. Because both countries know how to win. The only good teams they had was when Beckembauer ( what a player! ) was playing. Specially 1970.

As for the German team, yes they did well. Expectations weren't all that high to begin with, and they had a pretty good run, and were very entertaining. Klinsman proved to everyone he knew what he was doing.
