The difference is WHY the 8 (not 4) werefired. These are political appointments (ad shouldn't be, in my opinion) and it is normal for an incoming administration to install new prosecutors.

But the 8 were not fired for that reason. It appears that they were fired for refusing to ignore GOP people alleged to have broken the law and target Democrats. That, in any administration, isn't acceptable.

But (to be fair) the real problem is the Bush administration's own doing. Rather than simply confronting the issue, they've kept changing their story (as has Gonzalez). So even if there isn't any real wrong-doing (though the hard eveidence that'sbeen made public is incriminating, its not absolute proof) they've given Congress good reason to demand a full accounting.

It is not the same and you know it. Every president brings in his own US Attorneys at the BEGINNING of theirs terms in office. These 8 that were fired were done in the middle of his second term (in the last 60 years there have only been 2 fired during a term), they were Republicans and his own appointments to begin with. So there is no way you can equate Gonzalez actions with that of previous administrations. Now what Gonzalez is being investigated for is 1) - lying under oath to Congress (a felony), and 2) - possible obstruction of justices charges (also a felony). Gonzalez committed criminal offenses and should be dealt with, and if Rove is also involved (and the evidence sure points that way) he should be dealt with legally also

Mr. Gonzales fired 7 US attorney's. mid term.
With every drop of information we get, it looks as if these people were fired for political reasons, because they did not bring lawsuits against Dem's. before the House elections in 2006.

To top it off, it appears, Mr. Gonzales has lied, misled, or to be kind, forgot, that he was in meetings with the polictical arm of the White House, Rove & Myers, when the firings were dicussed.

Ms. Reno replaced 93 U.S. Attorneys at the start of her term as Attorney General, so did G. W. Bush, so did G. H. W. Bush, so did Regan, and also J. Carter.

US Attorneys work at the pleasure of the president, but they are the representitives of the Jusice Dept. so they are subject to congressional review.

They're trying to CREATE a crime so they can start impeachment. Kind of like the republicans did with Clinton when they got him to lie about getting a BJ.

I agree 100%. The excuse as far as I can tell is that he did it so long after re-election. Don't ask me how politics work.
