Why is there a BET and a Miss Black America and no WET and Miss White America?

I am not racist but isnt there a double standard in America? Why are white people always being called racist? And dont come at me with slavery or civil right cuz that happened far too long ago to still be mad today.

There is no miss white america, WET tv network or other things focused on whites because there is no need . The United States is already a white oriented country . I think you can agree that most media is already white, so there is no need to create a separate network focused on whites, same goes for Miss America, etc. The thing is, white people don't "see" that we have mostly white tv, and that most everything is from a white point of view because they are so used to it that they believe it to be normal. For example, American history, American art, most anything with "American" in the name is only white even though America is comprised of other groups. These groups are not considered "American", per se, thus they must create a separate version in order to be included. There is racism because of this not "seeing" others as the same. Let's take animals for example. I have 3 cats, an orange striped, a gray striped , and a calico. They honestly do not see any difference in each other . They only see "cat". Racism will continue until people see only "people" not "black people" or a "white people".

BET was created because MTV & VH1 at that time, didnt play enough of the black music, or give enough info on black entertainers, or enough news on black communities,etc. The BET channel not only gives us that info but it also plays commercials for hair products that blacks use and also BET not only plays "black" music, they play whites as well, they show hip hop, R&B, and rap...Miss Black America was created because black women were not given the opportunity in the past to even be in the Pageant, let alone win one. Things have changed since then, however, why cancel the program or the channel, they have both been successful, and done great things in the black community. This is not to say that White leaders have not done alot for the black community. This was to answer your question on why. If you feel that there should be a channel for whites only, or a pageant for whites only, then do what you need to do to get this done. It would not make anyone racist, it just means you are representing your heritage!!!

There is a big double standard in the U.S. It won't change in the near future, since too many people are afraid of being labeled as racist. I'm done responding to racially toned questions. Yes, you are probably a racist. You need to know your history too. Sit down and talk to your parents or grandparents. Let them tell you America's racial history. Most of these TV stations like BET and Latinos and other minorities group. Who have their own stations or programs representing their cultures. It is because we (minorities) were not seeing it on regular TV. I remember MTV and especially country showing nothing but white folks. For many years in this country there were no people of color on TV. I remember my mother telling me about a white and black water fountain. We were segregated by race. If blacks were on TV, they were stereotype as lazy and stupid. They were servants roles "mammy" and always inferior to whites. Everyday and anytime of the time you can turn on the TV and see someone who represent the white culture that's WET. Since you don't have an avtar or picture. I can only assume you are white. If you are a person of color, you should have known the answer to the question already. How can it be double standard for minorities group? I think you are specifically speaking to black people to have one stations (BET) that represent our cultures compare to over 500 or more channels that are white. What we see presently on TV is not multicultural. If there are some TV shows with blacks, Latinos etc., they are mostly shown with negative stereotypes. Every time people of color especially blacks try to do something that is positive and uplifting for their culture. White people get mad or jealous and say it's double standard. Get hel* out of here.

It would not bother me one bit if BET and Miss Black America were wiped out tomorrow. I think you hold black people accountable for these institutions when we honestly don't care that much about them at all. But, there is actually the NAAWP, by the way. I wonder if they are racist in nature, or embrace multiculturalism. I'd be willing to bet they support white power, not pride. That is the difference, in my opinion. Institutions like BET, NAACP were implemented to thwart the harsh realities of a severly racist environment. And Jim Crow only ended in '64. BTW, I'm engaged to a white man and have many white friends. But, I think white people should stop riding blacks about these institutions. It's not really our fault they were there so don't get mad at us. Get mad at racism.

because there is not enough representation of the black people or black culture on all the other 100s of TV stations. Same reason why you have latin america channels and programs, women's network (oxygen, lifetime etc). Stop whinning, out of all the TV channels, about 98% of them show whites and talk about the white culture 80% of the time. It's time you realize you live in a country that is less than 70% white.

How many predominantly white TV stations are there? How many predominantly white pageants are there? So many and so many. We only have 3 TV stations compared to all the white ones. BET, TV One and Black Family Channel. So why are you people still complaining about this stuff? If BET hasn't been created, then music videos by blacks still wouldn't get played nearly as much as the ones by whites. I guess people like you want everything in the world to be for whites only. Just because BET stands for Black Entertainment Television, that doesn't mean non-blacks can't watch it.

We all have some racism in us, yes everyone. The blacks in this Country want everything given to them, and no one wants to stand up them. There needs to be an all White, all Latino (Mexican) and the all other shows. Just as the black caucus in DC will not allow a non black into the Caucus, can you imagine if the tables were turned. The people saying every other TV station and Miss America and such are WET....are FOOLS. Beautiful black women compete in Miss America and black people are represented on all TV stations and ALL contests...to say otherwise is ignorance on their part. Specifically "Kevins_v..." and "Coffebo"
