If you can afford the hitting difference in HR/RBI & BA between Fielder and Hafner and still kick in the hitting categories, do it. Your pitching is young and suspect, but could be quite good. Adding a proven anchor type of pitcher just makes you that much harder to beat. You can figure you will lose about 15 HR, 40 RBI and .020 in hitting between Fielder (30/95/.290?) and Hafner (45/135/.315?). Those numbers could be closer depending on Prince's pace of development. If you have a lot of pop at other positions, I say hit it now.

In a heartbeat. Hafner is a great bat to give up but with your pitching right now you need help and Zambrano qualifies as very good help. Fielder certainly isnt in hafners category hitting wise but he is a quality hitter that will give you very solid numbers. He should hit close to .300 with 25 HR and 90 RBI anyways. But with the pitcher he is offering you cant expect to get a comparable bat anyways....he actually offered a better hitter to go with Zambrano than most would. If it were me the deal would be excepted without hesitation...especially with your lack of top end starters (you can drop Belisle or Greinke and not feel bad). Good luck!

Yeah, I'd say do the deal because after Kazmir and Hamels, your pitching is either one of the following or more: young, inconsistent, or questionable. Having Zambrano will bolster your staff, but you are losing alot out of Hafner though. If he's healthy, he would have a monster MVP season. Say .300+ AVG, 100+ Runs, 45-50 HRs, and 120+ RBIs? You'll be lucky if you'll get anywhere close with that with Fielder.

Prince Fielder is going to be an spectacular participant. HIs father replace right into a ballplayer too. His father is Cecil Fielder and he hit 360 homers. i think of his perfect season would be .3 hundred 60 HRs a hundred and forty RBIs. he's truly going to 500 HRs. Hafner can't be depended on. He has had purely a million or 2 good seasons

I'm always hesitant to trade for starting pitching. I usually have very good success finding studs on the wire. Zambrano is a quality pitcher and a quality team but he just signed/close to signing a huge extension and has thrown a lot of innings the last few years thanx to Dusty Baker's poor management. Good power hitting is always harder to find than pitching and as much as I like Fielder - I probably would not do the deal.
But...if you do not have a solid First Baseman - I might revise my thinking on this

I would say yes. Your pitching is mediocre at best and Zambrano can help. I just hope you have enough power in your lineup left to deal Hafner.

take it now. the dropoff from hafner to fielder will not be that great this year. plus, you're getting one of the top pitchers thrown in? do it now before it gets withdrawn!

your pitching is almost identical to mine, but i also have c.c. sabathia. i wouldnt do it personally, and i wouldnt advise you to unless you have some other guys who will provide hr, rbi, avg, and obp. pitchers will develop during the season so keep your eye on free agents. also, zambrano is a risk with arm injuries.
