Sorry to be an anorak sweetheart, but we didn't evolve from the monkeys and apes we see today. We have a common ancestor. Nerd me.

Technically, I think the theory is that man, monkeys and apes all evolved from one creature (ape like). So, were more like siblings in the evolution chain.

Because we evolved from a species that is closely related to them. Monkeys and Apes are not the same species and even chimps and bonobos are a different species within a species. Evolution is a very complicated theory.

Because man mutated from certain species of monkeys & apes in order to adapt to the changing environment but not all apes evolved the same way.(oo er,I went a bit serious then didn't I!!??)

Because it was genetic mutation. Like the Tortoise on the Galapagos islands, they are just normal tortoise, but due to being so isolated etc. they evolved into Huge beasts.
Tricky to say if the same thing happened to that specific ape or not, sadly I wasnt around to see.

Go back and read the science book again....nobody said we evolved from monkeys and apes.
It said we share some of their DNA.
