Im playing in men's league softball. Several of these teams crank home runs on us 6,7,8 a game. They also all have $300-$400 bats. We use $40-$60 bats from Walmart. Can the bat really make that much difference and if so what would be a good, moderatly priced bat. I have a hard time when thinking of dishing out $300+ on a bat that I can buy for $50! Any thoughts?

Kind of the same premise as golf. Give Tiger my driver, and he will hit is far, but no where near as far as he hits his Nike.
The more expensive bats have a better compression.

the color is just to show the difference in the drop of the bat .. the blue one is -10 .. the pink is -10.5 .. and so on .. i recommend the synergy it is really good .. also the catalyst by louisville slugger and the rockettech by anderson (probably the best bat because all you have to do is get your hands into the zone and science does the rest .. even if you take a half swing the ball is going to travell extremely far, but sometimes girls cant get the bat around because of the weight .. pick a bat that you feel you can swing)

Cheap bats have no pop. Those $400 bats allow guys who have no business hitting home runs crush the ball. It is difficult to compete when those bats are allowed and you don't have one. Some leagues will outlaw certain types of bats. If you want to compete, forget Wal-Mart and think about Easton. Go to this website http://www.softball.com/home.jsp

Yes, all bats are made differently and they are all weighted differently as well. You should try a "Play it again" sports store. They usually have a ton of used softball bats for cheap. But you should definatly spend more on a bat than $50.

Yes the better bats will hit the ball harder and further. But they only enhance your own ability. If you can hit a ball 260 with a single wall bat, that may be 280 with double wall, 300 with composite.
