Speaking as a huge Beatles fan I'd say that Shakespeare probably had the edge lyrically but I think The Beatles wrote better tunes.
In defence of the fab 4 I would ask why people only quote their (maybe) simplistic lyrics such as Love Me Do and ignore more complex stuff like Strawberry Fields Forever or I Am The Walrus.
You've also got to bear in mind that Shakespeare and The Beatles were working in totally different fields and nearly 400 years apart. In answer to anybody who thinks that The Beatles are not deserving of being mentioned in the same sentence as the Bard, I would argue that people will still be listening to, enjoying, and discussing The Beatles' music in 400 years time just as they are doing with Shakespeare's work today.
Let's be thankful that we have both great bodies of work to discover and enjoy!

How can you compare 4 long haired 60s pop group to Shakespeare, the later who created works translated and quoted in practically all the languages in the world. There is no competition. Shakespeare was and still remains the greatest poetic writer in the world

Well, they are both poetry, so that means they are as poetic as each other.

If you mean more beautiful, then I'd have to go with Shakespeare. The Beatles wrote some great songs, but Shakespeare saw into humanity and drew it out in words. No one can compete.

The Beatles are NOT overrated, but Shakespeare sets the bar a tad higher than the Fab Four.

With out a doubt. it has to be shakespeare. His words have survived the ages and are being taught in schools across the country. Where exactly are the "fab four" 's words being taught? music schools and maybe drama colleges but shakespeare's words will live forever more in primary, secondary and colleges across the country.
