Definition of "Idol"
An image used as an object of worship.
A false god.
One that is adored, often blindly or excessively.
Something visible but without substance.
... nothing about singing... Sounds like Sanjaya is the epitome.. right??

what I mean is, the judges keep calling it a singing competion but it's not JUST that, it's an entire package competition. Sorry, to those that can TRULY sing but, you have to be a jack of ALL trades and a master of none. JMTCW

Though I enjoy your question, I don't think many people appreciate your realistic thought process right now......What else would our great media write about? Who wants to hear about war and politics? Lets talk/write about the Sanjaya controversy! American Idol is a popularity contest, but to talk about horrible singers just seems so much more important!

America is worshipping and adoring these contestants, for their voices and entertainment skills. Why are they singing every week if it's not about singing?

I only watch the show to watch Simon beat everyone up verbally. Now that he is becoming a nice guy - I will probably quit watching.
