Was it actually racist? Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson say more racist things then that. I think this is being blown out of proportion.

I don't think so. I am black and don't understand why everyone is so upset. Why? Because he said they were "nappy headed"? That is ludicrous, like white people don't get nappy hair also. It just means tangled or matted. Doesn't that happen to everyone? Or am i just completely miss informed? You would think that they would be more upset about the fact they were called "Ho's", but nobody seems to care about that. You never hear about white people complaining and starting an uproar because they are made fun of by black comedians. Why do my people have to take everything so personally. I say get over it, if you can't laugh at yourself and we can't laugh at each other, then what is the point?

He probably wouldn't have called tall, unattractive white basketball players "whores", that is probably why it was considerd racist.

Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson don't have much credibility outside of a small contingent of followers, so they only have to pander to those people. They don't have advertisers, either (not sure about Al Sharpton's show). Imus is national and supposedly has a following of all types of people. Also, Al Sharpton has been saying this stuff for years and still comes off being able to be jovial with the likes of Bill O'Reilly and Pat Buchanan, they disagree fiercely but respect the others' right to have an opinion. It wasn't that way with Imus' comments.

Do Al Sharpton and the Rev.Jessie Jackson ever call white people names.do you ever hear them say something like White T****.or talk about your skin or your hair.Do you ever hear them call any white person a name.I never have, and you have neither. So stop trying to get things started when you know the man was in the wrong.Mr.Al Sharpton and the Rev Jessie Jackson have done nothing to you, they are just 2 Powerful men that tell the truth about the wrongs of the world, and they stand up for what is right. They stand up against the Evilness that have Plagued our Country from the beginning.Of course you would think it is blown out of Proportion, that would be the first thing a Racists would say?

What he said was intended in a comical way as he was describing a struggling team that made it to the championships. The nappy-headed ho was his description of a tough girl coming out on top. It was stupid of him and it has killed his career. He apologized, he is most likely losing his job, what more does "THE REVEREND" Al Sharpton want? It's funny how someone with the title of a Christian clergyman can't accept someones apology and be so intent on his downfall? Did he apologize to the Duke Lacrosse players for siding against them in the false rape claims? No, he didn't. Imus said some stupid remarks, he didn't say them in hate and malice. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are the ones who have hate and malice toward white people. They jump on a the race card band wagon a go, go, go. I don't think as a Christian, if thats what kind of reverand he is, he is living the characteristics of Christ. No, no one should tolerate injustice and wrongdoing, but this is ridiculous. He didn't commit a crime, he let his free speech kill his career.

It wasn't so much of a 'racist' thing as a misogynist statement.
Since when is it okay to call women basketball players whores? The fact that most everyone here sees no problem in this, is sickening. What if he had referred to your favorite male football stars as pimps, or pri***? Would that have set well with you morons ? This garbage is streaming into our morning television programming - it's not an adult comedy club. If that's the best this 'commentator' can muster, then he needs to get his butt back to his ranch and keep it there.

It was certainly in bad taste. The suspension really should have started immediately after the decision came down & not start next Monday. The punishment is appropriate though.

I think it was wrong due to the fact those women never did anything to him probably haven't ever spoke his name so to refer to them like they where wild animals and call them hoes it was just wrong i could even see if they had some type of fight going on then it's fair game it may have not been racist but it was rude, mean, cruel and why what was the reason to try and embarrass someone who has never did anything to you

the media is blowing it out of proportion!!! so what he said it...he apologized to the basketball team and that's who he needed to apologize to not the whole black race!!! lmao!!! but what really gets me on all of this is that Imus and his cronies in the background not only called them nappy-headed hoes but also called them jiggaboos too and noone has said anything about that...but i don't care...i think sharpton and jackson just had to take this on because they haven't been in the news for a while! lol!!! media wh*res!!! plus, if you want to get down to it, the black race as a whole looks bad for letting their rappers call themselves n!ggas and stuff like that all the time!!! just read some of the lyrics sometime or listen to chris rock or dave chapelle or even richard pryor. they get to call us whitey or cracker anytime they want and get away with it! me, personally, i don't take offense to it...i think it's funny but you'll see what i mean!!! sorry, didn't mean to go on a rant...lol!!!

perhaps not as racist as it's made out to be, but surely mean spirited, and he should know better. His protestions that "I'm a nice guy just trying to be funny" is insulting too.
