Do you think persian kings told their people" we, the greatest superpower in the world, will invade Sparta to control all of the trade in the Mediterranean because we are a greedy bunch and because we can, and because our leader is a mad idiot who wants to continue the mad war of his bloody father"?
Or do you think they said " Our God leader who receives direct divine inspiration from heaven will lead us in a winning and just war against the evil and barbaric Spartans. We are the good, and the Spartans are the bad and if you do not believe that you are an unpatriotic filth"

Do you think a Persian citizen then could ever believe that he actually belongs to the a greedy super power? Do you think he/she would ever consider that maybe the Spartans, their religion, their customs and their values aren't as bad as everybody says? That maybe their stand against a super power despite their weakness makes them some form of heroes?!!
Doesn't the past shed light on the present?

You know i think you have issues.... It sounds very much like you are trying to find a way to Bush bash without coming out and saying it.

Of course past sheds light on the present but you must remember....

IT WAS A MOVIE. if you have problems... you need to deal with and express them openly and forthcomingly. Don't try to use a movie as your jumping off ground.

[I'll get off the soapbox now]

There are several things wrong in your "argument."

1. Kings never asked for permission, they just order people and they either follow that order or get horribly killed.

2. Citizens under a king never thought about anything other than survival.

3. This war with Iraq is bad, wasteful and a blatantly greedy oil money grab by the people who pull Bush's strings.

Remember that Spartans did do somethings that modern society frowns upon (and are illegal). Like killing deformed or retarded babies soon after birth, like sacrificing young girls and children to gods, sometimes tortuously.

As far a the movie 300 being a metaphor for the current troubles in Iraq, it is too much a reach of logic to hold up, sorry but thanks for playing.

the past will always shed light on the present, because of the fact , that like everything else , the past will repeat itself. have you ever heard of what comes around goes around.. well there you go. It is a movie, take it for what it was, a movie about Greek Mythology, nothing else. Why do you want to make it more than it is? or are you just trying to get a headline as a " Liberal".. the same people that are tearing this country apart.?

Wow, I'm still amazed that continue to try and link this movie to current politics. It just a movie. Repeat with me, M-O-V-I-E! And it's based on a graphic comic, for crying out loud! Gee, I wonder what the hidden meaning is behind Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Some sort of Nestle/Hershey/Cadbury conspiracy I bet.

i think the persians were slaves who didnt have a choice. it was either die in battle at the hands of the spartans or die at home at the hands of another slave of the "god king". at least by coming to fight in sparta they had a few extra days to live.

i wasnt looking that deeply into the comic book movie to see the parallel between today's political atmosphere and that in the movie. i jus enjoyed a movie that had great art, great storyline, great hard bodied actors. nothing more...sometimes u enjoy things more when u keep it simple.

when i watched 300 , the spartans seem the invincible ones and they way i saw it, was the spartans thought they were all it , and thought they could take on the world as they tried to do lol, and i think there all f*ucked up in the head cause noone was forcing slavery , just a take over "the king" jumped to a huge conclusion and thought **** it im going to wipe out the bastards , and you knew that wouldnt happen, and there "the kings" own country wouldnt back him up cause he was a barbarian (am i right?)

Well...The good book say's that...There is nothing new under the sun.

And if people do not learn from their mistakes of the past, they are doomed to repeat them.
