Why do you white people continue to beat a dead horse? This subject is SOOOOOO yesterday. Get over it! Grow up! There's nothing YOU can do to change the opinion of an entire nation...

Some people aren't so nice, some aren't so smart, but they're still covered under OUR constitution to be able to be ignorant and stupid.
Firing Imus was a moronic thing for those that report the news and depend on the very rights they've taken away from Imus. And all the sponsors that canceled, they're protected under the very same, as long as they keep their lies to a minimum.
This political correctness is going to take away the one thing many of us hold near and dear.
If he goes into rehab would that help? That too is so ignorant. Who'll be the next victim of political correctness?

Let me clear the air on a few things that some of you are missing here:
1) Neither Al Sharpton nor Jesse Jackson speak for the blacks in America. Why people insist on thinking that they do is beyond me. That's sort of like thinking that David Duke and Don Imus speak for all whites. Kinda stupid, huh?
2) There's also this assumption that all black people listen to rap music. Most of the black folks I know do not. Personally, unless its old-school hip hop, it gives me a headache. Again, that's like saying all white people like country music. Again, kinda stupid huh?
3) The other misconception is that black people call each other the "N" word all the time, so why's it a big deal? The fact is that most ethnicities in the US will occaisionally direct a slur towards their own kind at one time or another. I can't tell you how many times I've heard white people refer to each other laughingly as 'redneck'. Those same people would be getting a rope ready if a black man used that slur on them. Its just a matter of having the license (and common sense) to use/not use, that language in mixed company. I can call my best buddy an ******, but if some stranger calls me that same name, he'd better be ready to fight!
Its not a 'double standard', its called 'accountability'. You have the freedom to say what you like, but if others that don't like what you say, don't expect them to smile politely, sit there, and shut up.
The bottom line is that Imus was WAY out of line with his 'joke', because he insulted some students who did nothing to deserve it, other than be black female athletes who didn't fit his vision of 'beauty'.
And that's why the remarks are such a 'big deal'...

This really isn't a free speech issue. The govt is not coming down on Mr. Imus.
People have a right to protest anything that makes them mad. Mr. Imus made alot of people mad. These people are practicing their free speech (same as Mr. Imus).
People have the right to say whatever they want (almost, curse words and threats against Mr. Bush are some exceptions). Said people should expect some type of retribution from any people he/she has offended (who are also practicing their rights).
Freedom of speech is a two-way street.

The comments that Imus said weren't racial. They were definitely inappropriate. If anything they more degrading to woman in general then racial. I agree if they fire him that will be the beginning of the end to Free speech. This is not about race but more of a witch hunt by Al Sharpton. He needs his name in the paper. How many White people has Al Sharpton defended. None. I think we found our racist in this situation. And it isn't Imus. He does a lot of good for sick children. I hope this all blows over soon.

AND I'M HALF BLACK!!! look at the rap lyrics and so on...no, if you want respect, respect yourself first, but the people who are saying that are the minority cause not all black people are like that..Jessie jackson and al sharpton live for this kind of stuff, they make money on this!!!

truthfully, even even with the reality that I believe the gist of what you assert, loose speech is in problem-free words certain in a public venue, jointly with being out in public. Yahoo is a privately owned entity and is hence allowed to make your concepts up only what's going to, and could no longer, be printed interior its venue. Our rights and traditions assure us the right to freedom of speech. It does no longer, notwithstanding, assure us a captive target audience. yet, as well that, Yahoo! truly are turning out to be further and extra biases in what they enable to be printed.

When are you all going to let this Imus issue rest?? It's just like that Anna Nicole Smith person. She's getting more airtime now than she ever had when she was alive.
Moon...you need some help. You have been whining all day.

What Imus said wasn't a joke. It was a nasty statement that he wanted to get laughs about. And yes he has been saying things like this for years about others. But there is a difference. You don't know what it feels like because you never had to walk in a black person's shoes before. Back in history the white man was getting away with sh!t like this and worse. He was ever raping black women behind the white wives backs. Don't you think enough is enough? You white people don't like it when someone takes your children and you turn around and they're gone! How do you feel? It's like someone punched you in the stomach right? I realize that humiliation is quite far from kidnapping but we get the same feeling. It feels like we've been stomped on and spit on all over again from history. Stop making excuses about this incident. There is none!

He can say what ever he wants. The government is not censoring him or putting him in jail. His boss, who pays him to talk, has every right to fire him, or suspend him, or tell him what to say or not to say. It is his job.
If he is fired he can always go and start his own station and say what ever he wants, or write a book and call people all sorts of names.

Rappers can talk about rape, murder, cop killings, and drugs, and ho's. Sharpton and Jackson could care less. But a white Say says "nappy head ho's" and they scream... Does not make sense
Think about it, who is more influential to children, the rich, ho loving rappers or some has been white guy that they never heard of?
I will boycott any corporation that pulls advertising from his show. And I dont even like the guy.
