Even if things don't go quickly or smoothly, it doesn't mean you won't have a happy, healthy baby.

My son was overdue and I had to be induced also and it took almost 12 hrs from the time they began inducing to the time he was actually born, but I had complications. They inserted the Pitocin suppository and the started the Pitocin drip but it did not progress as they thought it should have as I barely dialated after about 8 hrs. They ended up giving me another Pitocin suppository and increase the drip and went in and broke my water. I started dialating quickly after that, but ran into another complication because he was so big and his shoulders were too wide for the birth canal and he started becoming distressed and they called a very experienced doctor for a consult about going to a C-Section. Instead of that, he came in and he used a suction cup tool on my son's head and was able to help pull him out. The downside was that I was badly torn and was sore for weeks, but I healed up fine.

The upside is I delivered a happy, healthy very large baby boy.

They used the Pitocin on me too. I was scheduled to be induced at like 6 am, but it was closer to 8 before the doctor ever came in. (He had an unexpected delivery) I guess they gave me the Pitocin at around 9am and my son was born at 5:23pm.

They induced me because I was due on July 5th and the OB didn't want to be stuck at the hospital for July 4th!! lol Which was fine, cause he was my second and I was ready to be done with being pregnant!

Anyway. Congratulations on your baby girl. Don't worry, it's really not as scary a thing (delivery) as everyone says.

there is no hard and fast answer to that question - although they are inducing your l;abor will still progress at it's own rate. My last child was induced - and at first we used Cervidil to make sure the cervix was totally ripe - that took about 12 hours - they hoped that might bring it on - NOPE so then they started the Pitccin - and when the pain got there I did have an epidural - unfortunatly it wore off at a bad time - transition and at that point they can't give more - but it reallywasn't the screaming AUGH---- that you see on TV lol
It took about another 8 - 9 hours before my daughter was born. Each one is different - just as with each one that happens without induction .

Don't stress it and it will go just as it should.

Good luck to you and congrats on the baby

I was induced with both of my kids and they used pitocin each time. With my first they admitted me and started pitocin slowly and then they let me sleep overnight then woke me up early the next day and I had him around 3 that day. With my daughter they started pitocin around 10 that morning and then my contractions became strong enough and they turned off the meds after about an hour and she was born at 2 pm. I think its different with everyone. Good Luck and Congratulations!

With my first, my water broke with no contractions, so they gave me pitocin. I had my son 16 hours later. With my second, they induced me early due to high blood pressure and they gave me pitocin. I had my daughter 8 hours after that. With my third, induced with pitocin, I had him after 6 hours. I had no trouble with the induce. The nurses will take care of you. Good luck!!! (oh, BTW-don't try to be a trooper and do it without drugs, the contractions are more painful when you are induced. Take the epidural!)

I was induced with Cervidil, which is the pill that they put into your cervix. I was given two of these over the course of 5 hours. I didn't have Pitocin, but I can tell you that induced labor is supposedly worse than natural labor because you are making your body do something it isn't quite ready for.
I was in labor for 18.5 hours and I didn't have an epidural until about 8 hours after labor when I was 3.5 centimeters.

I received pitocin at 9:30 am and had my son at 12:46 in the afternoon....so don't be surprised if your baby comes quick....you will be able to tell as soon as they give it to you!!! I dilated from 1 to 7 in forty minutes and didn't get an epidural until I was almost 9 so I might as well not even had one!!! Good luck !!!

There are no guarantees on how long it takes for a Pitocin drip to help deliver. It varies depending on many factors, including how fast you dilate, how far effaced you are and more. I was induced with my daughter due to leaking amniotic fluid. From the time they started the drip to delivery was about 8 hours. My sister was on a drip for 20+ hours, and never dilated, ending up with a c-section.

Good luck.

I was induced because they had to break my water to get me going. They gave me Pitocin to kick up the contractions and to get them regular. It made my contractions come the same length apart but it made them hurt worse. I think you should get an epidural as soon as possible, like when you get to 6-7c. dialated, it will help soooo much. Also have them put some med. into your iv so it cuts down on pain until you can get the epidural. I have 3 boys and it's a life saver.
