Billy Donovan has been to three final fours since 2000, including two championships.
Tubby Smith won a national title in his first year using players he didn't even recruit.
Donovan without a doubt...

I am a Gator fan so I will obviously pick Billy Donovan. I think Tubby Smith is a great coach though. If you compare them now, the obvious answer would be Billy Donovan with his 2 titles in 2 years.
Billy Donovan built the Gators' basketball team 10+ years ago. His recruiting classes classes are top notched. Winning back-to-back national titles isn't bad for the resume either. After winning the first title, you know you are a great coach when your 4 superstars decide to come back to school and try to repeat, instead of taking the NBA money.
Tubby Smith won one national title, his first year at Kentucky. Of course, he used Rick Pitino's recruited players to win though. But a win is a win, no matter how you put it. His recruiting isn't legendary known but he got great players to come to Kentucky, Rajon Rondo for example. We shall see how Tubby recruit and coach his new team.

Billy Donovan from a Kentucky fan, but only because he's the better recruiter and younger which probably allows him to possess a little more energy. I make the final judgement because of close games won and Billy Donovan won close games a larger percentage of the time. But Tubby Smith is also a good coach. I believe it's mostly about the players you get to coach. Recruit good players, discipline them to their abilities and they'll win for you.

From what I've heard, Tubby Smith is a great teacher but not-so-good recruiter. Donovan may not have Smith's teaching prowess yet, but he's a better recruiter. To win championships, you need talent and coaching. If you lack one area, you will struggle...
So I would rather have Donovan who gives you coaching and recruiting.

Tubby Smith. Tubby Smith proves that he can win no matter what school he goes to. Billy Donovan is young and may have two championships but that doesn't mean anything until he can continually win.

This question totally depends on what kind of style of basketball you want to have played. If you want to run and gun, fire lots of 3's, press all game long, then definately Billy D. If you like the slow it down, defense matchup, 60-54 kinda low scoring affair, then Tubby is the coach for you. A lot of fans enjoy the up-tempo style, others like the slow motion style. They are both outstanding coaches with great accomplishments, with two contrasting styles.

Tubby Smith. Look at the two schools. Florida is shot after their two miracle seasons. Even when Kentucky is'nt on top of the rankings, you still hear about them. They are more prestigious. I never heard anything about Florida until they were amazing, but I always here about Kentucky. Tubby Smith Baby!!!!

Dononvan easily. He built his program up. Tubby used pitinos guys to win his only championship, then it started going south from there. Both are good coaches, but donovan is a better recruitor. Donovans offensive sets are pretty impresive too.
