I love to write. I had written short stories and one of the stories has been chosen in a literary contest and its appearing in a anthology of new authors, so i will appear in a book. Some say that you are not an author untill someone publishes you. My appearing in the anthology... makes me an author? Or do i have to wait untill the publishing of my first novel? I do not consider my self as a writer. i define my self as a person who likes to write. Help please!! And thank you to all of you.

Your heart!Understand me plase properly. One can write and be loved by the readers! But if he doesn't feel it in his heart, then he isn't a writer! I had the same feeling when i wrote my first book, though t isn't still published(not that it isn't a good one,i just didn't go to the Publishing point,i don't think that they will accept my book),i feel it in my heart!Just stop for a second and listen what is says:
". . . .You are a writer"
If you aren't ,you'll understand that!
With respect.

When you write something, that makes you the author. It also makes you a writer because you wrote it. Whether it's any good or not is irrelevant. There's plenty of books published which aren't worth reading. But you never know, maybe you are good. Keep writing. You can only get better.

Yes it is right that you are not an author until published, but being published in an anthology counts surely.
I would call yourself what ever you feel most comfortable with. I like 'a person who likes to write'. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Once you set pen to paper (or type on a computer) and create an original piece of writing, you are an author. You've authored that piece.

Congrats on the publication of your short story!

I think you should define yourself however you wish. Don't worry about titles - just do what feels right.

Best of luck!

You have written stories, therefore you are the author of that work, irrespective if you're published or not. Think of yourself as a writer.

Many published authors prefer the more humble term, writer. Whichever one you prefer, the correct term for you (at this time) would be to say you are an unpublished author/writer.

You are an author. Perhaps not a published author yet, but you are definitely an author.
