Recently, some have called for Don Imus' dismissal after his having called the members of the Rutgers women's basketball team "nappy-headed hos". Of course, such language is VERY offensive, but black rappers use those words (and worse) all the time, so what's the difference? Also, Jesse Jackson once called New York City "Hymie Town" because of its large Jewish population, so why does he still have a following?

I never understood that either...it is a bunch of of hypocrisy!! I hear all the time on movies & in song, black people saying racial terms against whie people & its accepted, but when a white person says a racial term, its all over with, its war, they wantin to fight, riot, march ....NAACP gets involved, its all over the news et et et....many a time Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock made "white boy" jokes, "cracker jokes", "honkey Jokes", but Keith Richards (kramer) was under fire from every black person in the country for spewing the "N" word the way he did! He has received death threats for that....why is it ok? In the movie "Bring it on...all or nothing" w/Solange Knowles (Beyonces sis), through the whole movie she refers to her rival (Hayden Panatierre) as "white girl"...I couldnt see a movie being accepted if a white girl was calling a black girl "black girl" through the whole movie...it would be deemed racist!! I feel that if they dont want "white people" to use the same words they use, than they shouldnt say them either!! If they dont want "white people" calling them the racist words, than they shouldnt call white people racist words....its a two way street, but with black people its always there way & only there way that is acceptable....its not right at all!!!

Al Sharpton has made some VERY divisive comments, stirred up riots, and ruined lives. Look up Tawana Brawley, Steven Pagones, Crown Heights, Yankel Rosenbaum, Freddy's Fashionmart, "white interlopers," and other incidents. And NEVER apologized.

He's a horse's a**.

But he's right this time about Imus.

Race and culture dictate what is accepted and not. America's deep neurosis about race may never be resolved.

I can only control my own actions. I don't ever use those terms.

Really, with all of the collective wisdom on this forum, I find it hard to believe that Imus isn't being blamed for global warming, the war in Iraq, bad trade relations, etc.

I think we should leave the man alone. After all, he is an entertainer, and we all have the right not to watch. And he is a humanitarian, helping those that can't help themselves.

i think its strange as well its probably just hormones but that sounds a little extreme to me like when ever i look up a celebrity on youtube i purposely don't look at the comments because i know they will be filled with "he's hot , he's mine " stupid girls fighting over people they will be over in a week and probably never have , they are very stupid and just i dunno unintelligent is the only way i can really describe what i think of these types of people . the fans can really turn you off the celebrity and make you almost resent them it just goes to show that Beauty is really in the eye of the beholder cos some celebrities look like people who you would think "god i'd hate to be that ugly " and they become worried phenomenons and that is as far as they will go cos that's as far as their minds can reach but only substantial talent is recognized after hmmm 10 years or so

I think if the words are offensive and if someone has to apologize for saying them, they should be considered offensive no matter who says it. It just breeds racism to say a black person can use this term but not a white person.
