There are several types of jobs like that- you could be a certified nursing assistant (CNA) specializing in neonatal care, or you can become an LPN (licensed practicioner nurse) or an RN (registered nurse), but if all you want to do is work as an assistant in the hospital nursery, you just need to get your CNA certification. You can also just go to a hospital and sign up as a volunteer in the neonatal unit. A lot of hospitals let volunteers help rock the babies, particularly crack babies and other high-risk babies who need the extra love.

In Maternal-Child Health, Registered Nurses (RN) are the most common (rather than Licensed Practical Nurses - LPNs, or Nurse's Aides). Pediatric nurses work with children, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nurses work with premature or sick newborns, and Normal Newborn Nursery nurses work with the well newborns. Obstetric (OB) nurses work with the new moms after giving birth, and Labor and Delivery (L&D) nurses work with the moms during the child birth process.
In most hospitals, the nurses that work in the Maternal/Child Health department need to be able to work more than one area. All of the nurses need to know, not just how to work with the normal deliveries and babies, but what to do in an emergency or when something goes wrong.

Likely you mean a pediatric nurse-in some large hospitals they have various positions like parent educators, home educators, etc who help new parents by offering classes on baby care or who work with at risk families. Some of these positions are filled by social workers.

For brand spankin' new babies it's commonly called "OB-Tech".
They're the ones that work with the mothers while in labor/delivery then assist in care of the little guys until they go home.
This position needs a CNA, with current First Aid for Infants certification and allot of of the rest is on-the-job training.
