There's no way they could improve the iPod so much for the one on the iPhone and not release it on its own right?

The one that's integrated into the iPhone is way better than the current one.

Do you think it's a matter of time before the widescreen version is released by itself?

Yeah quite possibly. I think the main "improvement" will be a touch-screen like on the iPhone. I hope they don't take away all the buttons though — I like to be able to feel where the click-wheel is so I can change tracks and volume without taking the iPod out of my pocket while cycling.

May be... But mostly they will improve the internal electronic stucture than adding more features.

I think it will be a software upgrade, allowing you to play other music formats.
