Earth's population = 6.5 billion..........and there are 173 known planetary systems, including our solar system. Altogether containing at least 203 known planets.
Hope that helps, click link for details.

6.5 billion and increasing with about 100 million per year.

Oh and there are about 80 billion stars in our galaxy alone that could harbor life if a planet like earth was orbiting at the proper distance. Unfortunately about one third of all stars are bound in multiple star systems and it is not too likely that a planet could sustain a stable orbit in such a system or stable temperatures. But apart from that, considering that our own star has 8 planets (and probably hundreds of smaller worlds) around it, it is not unlikely that all other stars has on average atleast 1 planet orbiting it. We have found several extra solar planets already but they can only be described as absurd... They are called hot jupiters because their huge mass suggest that they are gasgiants. And still they orbit their parent star in a matter of days instead of years. That puts them very close to their sun and makes them very hot.

The world population is about 6,500,000,000

There are a few hundred solar systems known to exist, but most scientists are of the opinion that many, if not most, stars have planets orbiting them. It is only recently that we have even been able to detect planets orbiting other stars, and the methods are extremely difficult and indirect.

Hmm... so how does the world's population relate to the number of solar systems thought to exist? Or is this just for comparison purposes?

6.5 billion people I beleive are the recent figures...and there are thought to be billions perhaps trillions of undiscovered solat systems- we may never know at least not in our lifetime.
