Whats the point in any marriage if your asking about gay marriages?
To start families you dont need to be married, you dont need to marry someone to prove you love them theres no point in any marrriage.
But people do it because it makes them feel whole like they've finalised there love.

Babies aren't the only reason for marriage. If that were so, every straight married couple without kids after a certain age or who professed not to want kids should be made to divorce.
Marriage is about love, not being a baby factory. I would like to get married someday, and obviously I won't be able to reproduce, but I want to adopt kids, and raise them in a happy, stable home where they know their parents love them and each other; i.e., where their parents are married and committed deeply to each other.
There are also legal reasons for wanting to get married; common-law marriage doesn't seem to apply for gays, and a civil partnership is all very well and good but it's not legally the same as a marriage. Many legal and social benefits come with marriage; why should gays be disallowed them just because they are gay?
For me, though, marriage is all about love. It is a way of expressing your feelings to someone and saying "I am committed to you, and I want you to be my best friend and the only person I have romantic or sexual feelings for from now on."
Everyone should be allowed to do that. :) Good job I live in England, where we can!

The point is simple, we want to. Why does anyone want to get married. If marriage is only to reproduce, then why do we do that. We can reproduce without the paper. There are plenty of unwed mothers out there that have reproduced without marriage. Joining together with another person is not just about reproducing. Who says that gay couples cannot reproduce? Not the traditional way, but they can reproduce. Infertile couples do it so they can reproduce. Pick a battle that makes sense. Marriage is about 2 people stating out loud for the whole world that they love each other, respect each other and want no other in their lives. that is what is supposed to be about, leave the rest for the politicians.

Because it gives us the same rights and freedoms as heterosexuals. Without it we're second class citizens, and our community cannot grow up. We'll be stuck doing the same old dating scene that can never really move forward.
Most people don't marry to reproduce by the way, they marry because they are in love and wish to stay together. I've never heard of 2 heterosexuals saying to each other "Well here we are, 2 heterosexuals of the opposite sex, we should reproduce, wanna get married?"
People reproduce out of wedlock all the time now too, doesn't mean they'll ever marry. Also gay persons are still fertile, we can still reproduce out of wedlock too.
Point is people marry for love, not procreation. We should have that right to marry for love too.
I don't care if religions still won't marry us, but I fully expect to be treated with the same rights and freedoms as heterosexuals when it comes to law and government recognition.
Oh, as well, for a long time gay people have had to fight against hospitals and insurance agencies, because their relationships are not recognized. Nothing is worse than losing your partner, and have his/her family take everything of his/hers from you.
So give me my rights and freedoms. I am not a second class citizen. My relationships shouldn't be judged as inferior merely because I do not breed.
I am a human being, give me my freedom and dignity.

More to the point, why not? What rational, not religious, reason is there to be against it. Legal gay marriage has existed in my country going on 4 years, last I checked, no one was forced to marry the same sex, no church was forced to marry gays, no pets have asked to marry their owners, the birth rate has continued unabated, the family unit is alive and well, society continues to exist, the planet is still in orbit, fire and brimstone have not fallen from the heavens, and people are going about their daily lives without any adverse effects. So again I say, the question should be, why not?

The same as any marriage. Not all hetrosexual married couples have children and many unmarried hetrosexual couples do, so children are not really the point of marriage anymore. It is a pledge of commitment and gay couples have just as much right as anyone to make a commitment. I also believe that there are also legal implications, marriage ensures that the couple have legal rights.

Say what? Since when is marriage a prerequisite to procreation? If thats the case why do women past menopause get married? Why do sterile couples get married? Why does Maury Povich have a fortune giving DNA tests to guys to find out who's the baby daddy? Marriage for reproduction, PISHAW.

I don't need strangers to validate my relationship status. But I also don't like paying into social security and knowing that I can not leave these benefits to my partner. I don't think it's fair that we have purchased 4 or 5 homes, and have had to pay a totally different tax than a married couple would.
It's offensive that some drunk 18 year olds in Vegas can garner more legal protection in 20 minutes than my partner and I who have built a 15 year relationship, and contribute (IMHO) so much to our community.

Procreation is actually pretty low on the list of reasons why people get married. In fact most procreate with ever marrying, gay or straight.
It's about commitment and showing the person that you love that you are 100% devoted to them.

yeah I agree except that marriage is only a word either for legal rights or religious fervour. so the point is to be equal. You dont have to be married to have kids and In this day and age I am beggining to think that a gay marriaage would last longer any way sSo thats another good reason.
