I have heard that it is possible to grow potatoes in a black plastic dustbin. Has anyone else heard of this and if so could you tell me how best to get a good crop please.

make sure you start with some 1 to 2 inch diameter stones about 2 inches deep in container then cover with 4 to 6 inches top soil then put clean straw on top of that about 3 inches deep put enough top soil to cover straw. use seed poratoes cut in quarters about 2 or 3 inches apart then cover with 8 to 12 inches of top soil depending on variety of potatoes you should be able to harvest in about 90 days

Sure. Fill the container 1/4 of the way with potting soil, add potatoes. When the foliage is 12" long, add 6" soil. Continue adding soil as the foliage grows covering half of the stem and leaves. When they flower and you want to harvest your potatoes, just lay it on its side and dump out your spuds. good luck.
