Yesterday my dad told me & my mum that every night he has like visions of death and corpses laid in coffins. He said hes seen my mum, my brother, our dog and his dad in seperate visions all in coffins dead but hes not seen me and his mum. I have a feeling this is because he is not as close to us. But he says he can't avoid thinking about it because its subconcious and I was wondering if anyone has any idea what the cause could be or some explanation? It sounds really weird to me so thought I'd ask about it as you guys are all helpful. Also a neighbour who lived near to us died recently and he had a vision of her laid in a coffin yet he never even saw her coffin. it freaked me out.

Some people with a combination Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive disorder have persistent and unwanted thoughts that are often distressing, morbid, and they are unable to control them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obsessive-compulsive_disorder
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generalized_anxiety_disorder
http://www.aafp.org/afp/20001001/1591.html
OCD symptoms involving obsessions may include:
* Fear of being contaminated by shaking hands or by touching objects others have touched
* Doubts that you've locked the door or turned off the stove
* Repeated thoughts that you've hurt someone in a traffic accident
* Intense distress when objects aren't orderly, lined up properly or facing the right way
* Images of hurting your child
* Impulses to shout obscenities in inappropriate situations
* Avoidance of situations that can trigger obsessions, such as shaking hands
* Replaying pornographic images in your mind
* Dermatitis because of frequent hand washing
* Skin lesions because of picking at the skin
* Hair loss or bald spots because of hair pulling
Your fathers thoughts about seeing his family in coffins may very well be a symptom of OCD. He should see a mental health care professional.

Maybe your father has some guilt issues. How long has this been going on? In any case assure your father that there is nothing to fear. Death is just a part of life. It is going to happen to everyone eventually. Accept it for what it is and move on. In other words when he has a vision, recognize it for what it is and do not try to figure its meaning. It will come to you when you are ready.

Think of an orange, and the vision of one appears in your head. Think of a car and there is a picture of one. It's the same if you think of death and related subjects, visions of death etc will appear.
There is nothing of portent here and even if there were, death in visions doesn't represent actual physical death, it represents a new beggining.
As the old things die away, new things come to be. What really counts is how these visions are interpretted.

Just think of it like dreaming. You usually have no idea that you're dreaming while your actively doing it; so you're totally unaware that there's a whole other universe happening in the 'waking' world. The biggest obstacle is getting over your own ego. It's a little telling why dogmatic types cling so desperately to the notion of an after life (HUGE egos!!).

I certainly wouldn't jump to a conclusion that it's some psychic experience.
What does he say he feels during these visions? Fear? Sadness?
If he feels fear in connection to the visions, it could be based in a fear of losing those people. Not so much in literal death, but because he may not feel as secure in those relationships as you believe. It could be that his sense of... control or ability to maintain those relationships to be what he wants them to be is not as sure to him. (The death symbols could just be representative of that fear of loss.)
The fact that you and his mother do not appear in the scenes would seem to indicate he feels secure in the relationships he has with the two of you.
It's just something he needs to explore for himself.

I know this:
Death in the neighborhood makes you think about what you can lose. In his dream he sees what he can lose...
... just a reminder to him what's really important to him. Hope he acts on it and becomes closer to you.
Give him a hug and tell him you'll all be fine.
