I have a Netgear WGT624 v3 wireless router and can connect everything except the router to my PC. The connection is not a USB connection and my PC back does not have one to fit it. So far I can connect Broadband to modem to router and then I cannot connect to PC. What am I doing wrong and do I need something else so I can connect my Wireless Laptop to home PC. Thanks in advance.

You need a network interface card for the PC.

As others pointed out, you need a network card in your PC to use a wired connection to your router. Alternatively, you could also add a wireless card for your desktop but if the desktop and the cable modem are right next to each other, go with the network card. I've included a link to BestBuy below but you can find a network card at pretty much any computer shop. I've seen some cards for around $10-15 and you can certainly go higher but it often isn't necessary. I'd look for one that is listed 10/100 Mbps and fits into your PCI slot on your existing computer. Generally you have about 3 or more of PCI slots and they are usually empty unless you have a modem or a system without integrated sound on the motherboard.

As for connecting your laptop to the PC, what you'll need to do is look at your firewall settings between the two computers as well as enabling disk shares (if you want to share files between them).

Just buy a LAN cable (CAT5e) w/ RJ45 connectors. See pictures here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RJ45

Your router has 4 LAN ports w/ RJ45 slots. You can use any slot. Look for a similar slot in your PC's back. If there is none, you need to buy a LAN card or Network Interface card and plug it into a vacant PCI slot.

In case you plan to locate the PC quite at a distance, then go wireless also. Buy and install a USB type or PCI type wi-fi adapter.

You probably need a standard network card with an RJ-45 connection on it for your PC. Then you need a standard CAT-5 patch cable with RJ-45 connectors to plug between the router and your network card. RJ-45 jacks on your router or on the PC's network card look like a telephone jack, only larger.

Sounds as if your computer didn't come with an ethernet hookup. Go to your local computer store and buy an ethernet card (it might also be called a NIC). Then crack open your computer and install it. This will give you a hookup for your router.

Another alternative: Since you said your router is wireless, then you could also buy a wireless adaptor for your computer that plugs into your usb. This will allow a wifi connection.
