In the south we call them fish fries.

And we do them at every summer holiday.

Oh the smell of dropping a catfish into a vatt of boiling oil. Never before and never again will there be an aroma so disgusting and yummy all at the same time.

There's also usually a keg, some potato salad, some baked beans, and lots of cihps.

It takes a month to lose the weight you gain in that one day.

Hi Tia We love to host dinner parties, and we love to go to them as well. Once a month for both is fun, except around major holidays which usually become family dinner parties. We belong to an informal dinner group, four other couples and sometimes one or two singles. Sometimes we meet in a restaurant but most times we rotate to the homes of each family. Sometimes we make it a joint effort (someone brings salad, nibbles, or dessert) while the host prepares the main. It is always fun, and we learn about everyone's taste in background music, cooking, wines, hobbies, etc. At the last dinner party one of us had a family crisis come up in the middle and what was once a group of acquaintances became a very warm and supportive group of friends! Fancy and formal, casual and relaxed, we decide when planning the next get together. I highly recommend it.

They're not dinner parties but more just a casual Aussie Barbie with friends and family!

My grandmother always cooks a birthday dinner for our birthdays. It's just casual. I don't like those formal parties that we have to dress up. I can't stand dressing up.

My "dinner parties" are usually casual gatherings of the relatives on the holidays.

not often enough, my house is very small, and i get embarrassed by people i know who have such nice homes, but you have a good point, dinner parties should be had more often! now it seems as though people are just too busy and go out and dont entertain at home and they should! It is more personal and comfy!

Not very often, but I would like to have more. We are renovating the house right now, so it is not in tip top shape. I prefer casual ones.
