Well, I own 4 airbrushes / spray-guns:
With an airbrush, you can paint finer lines, control the AMOUNT of paint, and use small amounts of paint... It is easier to control the application (though I HAVE seen a few folks who are spray-paint wizards).
With an airbrush you can paint using acrylics, latex, dyes, and other materials not normally available in spray-cans.
With an airbrush, you can mix your OWN shades and tints !!
I have one compressor in my model-shop... and can switch brushes by just changing hoses... and then paint a project MUCH more quickly. 3 airbrushes and one spray-gun for priming and large areas

Air brush is so much easier to control - both the amount of air and the amount of paint being released
Airbrushes don't run out like cans do - and they are more earth friendly
Greater control and more delicate artwork can be achieved with the airbrush

It's a lot easier on your hands, for one thing. And you're not killing the Earth with aerosol propellants.
Plus, fabric dye doesn't come in aerosol cans.
