6 answers

4x + 5y = 6, y = 2x - 10
4x + 5(2x - 10)= 6
4x + 10x - 50 = 6
14x - 50 + 50 = 6 +50
14x = 56
x = 56 / 14
x = 4
plugging back into the expressions
4x + 5y = 6,
4(4) + 5y = 6,
16 + 5y = 6,
16 - 16 + 5y = 6 - 16,
5y = -10
5y/5 = -10/ 5
y = -2
As another check:
y = 2x - 10
y = 2(4) -10
y = 8 - 10
y = -2

I hope this helps.

4x + 5y = 6- - - - - - -Equation 1
y = 2x - 10- - - - - - - Equation 2
- - - - - - - - -

Substitute the y value equation 2 into equation 1

4x + 5y = 6
4x + 5(2x - 10) = 6

4x + 10x - 50 = 6

14x - 50 = 6

14x - 50 + 50 = 6 + 50

14x = 56

14x / 14 = 56 / 14

x = 56 / 14

x = 4

Insert the x value into equation 2
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

y = 2x - 10

y = 2(4) - 10

y = 8 - 10

y = - 2

Insert the y value into equation 2
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Check for equation 2

y = 2x - 10

- 2 = 2(4) - 10

- 2 = 8 - 10

- 2 = - 2

- - - - - - - - - -

Check for equation 1

4x + 5y = 6

4(4) + 5(- 2) = 6

16 + (- 10 = 6

16 - 10 = 6

6 = 8

4x+5y=6.....(1)
y=2x-10......(2)

Sub y in eq (2) into (1)
4x+5(2x-10)=6
4x+10x-50 = 6
14x=6+50
14x = 56
x = 4

Sub x=4 into eq (2)
y = 2(4) - 10
y = 8 - 10
y = -2

4x+5*(2x-10)=6
4x+10x-50=6
14x=56
x=56/14=4
substitute the value of x in equation that is
y=2*4-10
y=8-10
y=-2

its pretty simple!!,

you can find x or find y from 1 equation and substitute it in the other equation, u cannot substitue in the same equation, you will just get the same equation again.

ok find lets find x from eq 1 =

4x = 6 - 5y
x = (6 - 5y)/4

now substitute this in the other equation,

y = 2*(6-5y)4 -10
you can find y from this, y = -2

now substitue this value in either one of the equations, and find x,

x= 4

4x + 5y = 6
y = 2x - 10
-----------------------------
4x + 5(2x-10) = 6
-----------------------------
4x + 10x - 50 = 6
-----------------------------
14x = 56
-----------------------------
x=4
-----------------------------
substitute x=4 to y = 2x - 10
y=2*4 - 10
y=-2
