All of the previous answers are WRONG! You can drop a *RAW* egg onto a concrete floor from a foot or two without breaking it or enclosing it in styrofoam or padding.

Place the raw egg in a jar of vinegar so that it's fully immersed - you might need to put something on top of the egg to keep it underneath the liquid. It will take about a day for the egg to partially dissolve: all of the brittle calcium carbonate in the shell will dissolve, leaving an elastic, flexible egg shell. This egg shell isn't brittle, and won't break if the egg is dropped from a couple of feet onto a concrete floor. :)

If you do this with a hard boiled egg, you can end up with quite a bouncy egg, too. :)

i wouldnt worry about the floor breaking the egg will break first .
to protect the egg from breaking you need to wrap it in something that will spread the impact shock over the entire egg at one time so that no one point is taking the brunt of the shock.
