I believe that you are going to Abu Dhabi to join with your husband. As per the UAE immigration law, the family residence visa is valid for three years. You will get renewed your residence permit each time once it expired without going outside the UAE. Meantime you can travel as much you wish while the visa is valid.

I hope the above information will help.

All the best and welcome to Abu Dhabi.

It depends on you if you want you can just go to a border country or you can spend roughly a 1000 Aed and get your visa renewed without leaving the country. It obviously cheaper to go to a border country but not by much. The cost inclusive of the ticket and everything will probably put you back 750 Aed.By the way just in case you didn't know the exchange rate is pegged to the dollar at 3.68 Aed=1 dollar.

p.s. Zain is right . The above answer is for when you are changing your visa from one to another and not when you are renewing. I apologize for the mistake.
