They are wise to decline the Decider's invitation and sit this one out. Reid and Nancy Pelosi asked Bush for a meeting about the matter nearly two weeks ago. With nearly two thirds of Americans opposed to how the administration handles this war, its not clear how Bush speaks for the Ameican people.

Bryan: We will have to agree to disagree. From my vantage point, this is Bush's war. Not mine. If America is at war, why are we not being asked to make sacrafices? When was the last tiem Iraq attacked us also. Its more a disease to prolong a sensless war with no strategic victory in sight.

sgt_K: hey, its good to hear from you. I would welcome an opportunity to explore this further.
Be safe, and well. I have absolutely no issues with anyone serving or has served. Understand I know absolutely nothing about what is actually happening there. I was state side during the Vietnam war with a RESDESRON unit and only heard " this is not a drill" ONCE.
Thank you for your comments.

I am wondering what the point of Bush meeting with the Dems if they refuse to negotiate ...
Long time, no see, planksheer. I have now been in the Southern Desert of Iraq fighting terror for a couple of months now, and I may be able to provide another viewpoint.
We are not fighting a country in this war. We are fighting an idea - radical Islam. The people we fight are not Iraqis. They come from all over the Islamic world. From Egypt, the Sudan, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iran. From just about all places except Iraq. The Iraqis want us to do our job and then leave - but not one minute before. I talk to Iraqis every day, and they are all pretty much of one mind about this.
The war in Iraq is against an idea. Radical Islam threatens the entire free world, not just the United States. The time has come to stand up against terror or be forced to live with it forever. We, as a country, have chosen to fight the war. The country reaffirmed its decision by re-electing the Commander-in-Chief.
We in uniform understand this fight better than most. We understand the sacrifices involved and willingly come here. Most are here voluntarily. Many re-enlist to come here again. Re-enlistments are near record highs. We understand that we must fight this fight - or our children and our grandchildren will be forced to fight it. I would rather do the fighting and give the opportunity for a better life to my children.
It is okay to be opposed to the war. What one should watch, however, is how one goes about opposing the war. The "insurgency" here closely watches the American media. They know that we are winning every battle we are involved in; they cannot win militarily. Their only hope is to get the American public against the war and force a withdrawal. So, the more protests the "insurgents" see, the more they attack American forces. This strategy worked marvels back in the late 60s and early 70s.
Like I said ... I am NOT saying you are right or wrong. Just trying to rationally point out another point of view.
Have a GREAT Army day!! Huah!!

Even though 2/3 are unhappy with the handling of the war only one third want to loose the war, Reid and Pelosi won't change their agenda either and neither speak for America, just their party...

It is not to negotiate, it is just to let the Democrats know that what they are doing is wrong. They can not mix apples with stones, there is no relation. The war have nothing to do with domestic issues. Either they give money for the war and the backing of our troops in harm way or they don't give the money because they don't back our troops, one or the other. They can not be backing the troops but not the work the troops are doing because it doesn't make sense, that is just double talk.

Mindless sheep like this 'asker' is exactly why liberalism is killing the United States.
The United States is at war, period. It doesn't matter if you don't like it. It doesn't matter if you don't agree with it. The islamofascists will kill you, me, and every other person who doesn't think like they do.
Pelosi, Clinton, Kennedy, Ginsburg, Hussein Obama and the like are communists and hate the United States. They have allied themselves with the enemy (no, not the propaganda word insurgent) simply because they want more political power. They are treasonous terrorists, period. They should not be 'negotiated' with, period.
History has proven over and over that appeasement only leads to more death and destruction. These islamofascists must be exterminated like the filthy vermin they are.
As far as your comments about 2/3 of the US population not supporting Bush, I'd suggest you begin to engage your brain and stop watching so much of the communist news network (CNN). This is simply another liberal extremist tactic to undermine the United States and assist the enemy. If I walk into a PETA meeting, and take a poll about who supports hunting, what type of results would I get? From my personal experiences, the vast majority of people I speak to (and I speak to a lot, I work with the public) support my President.
Liberalism is a mental disorder.

I guess thats why we elect a president for a term rather than using "opinion" polls. The point of meeting to negoatiate is that...BUT..the Dems want to ram a timetable down our throats as they want to SUBMIT to Islam...Proof...why did Pelosi wear a BURKA at the DEMAND of the Syrian leader...Because they will do ANYTHING to see the GOP fail...even TREASON...Maybe that is why GW's polls are at 37% and Pelosi and Congress at 28%...explain that....almost 3/4 of the US is AGAINST THE DEMs GARBAGE

There is no point. And there's no democrat who does
not realize that. But perhaps George, Jr. would like
to boost his approval-rating in the eyes of the critics
he has to answer to on a daily basis.
He certainly doesn't want to do anything to boost his
approval-rating in the eyes of everyday citizens.
He told in 60 Minutes' Scott Pelley, when asked if it
bothers him that the majority of America no longer
trusts him: "No, not really."

What's the point of Bush meeting with the losers if they decline to negotiate. Thet Democrat losers just want to hash this out in the news relying on soundbites instead of negotiations. They are bound and determined to lose this war, just like they did the last one. That's why Congress' approval rating is even lower than the President's.

I guess Remocrats (mainstream "republicans" and "Democrats") like meeting each other. If they argue about anything, it is not about the fact a country had been illegally invaded and occupied. It is about the handling of the war...

Yeah it would just be more blah blah blah. They know that.
Why keep wasting time and keep holding our troops hostage.
Which is exactly what Bush is doing by not cooperating with congress. Bush wants to play hardball and this is exactly how it is done.
