Not much. Even though it would be the biggest event in human history, I think the general public would be apathetic. They don't care about other people here on Earth starving and dying, so why should they care about alien civilizations?

A lot of fear and uncertainty.Some would kill themselves and others would want to join them...People would walk on egg shells for awhile then we would adjust or die,depending on what the aliens had in mind for us...

well seeing how theres secret little black ops going on will never get that chance and if we actually do people like george bush will screw everything up for us probably end up fighting them over something stupid.
