Two critical things occurred, i'madinnerjacket and a few others who felt they had ultimate control of the country were usurped by a few stronger yet saner minds in the government, the importance of this is simply, while they want to push the free world they do not want to be invaded/destroyed at least not at this point.

The second key point is the role the US had in obtaining the release, the imminent arrival of the Nimitz of the coast of Iran, making three nuclear strike capable carrier groups, right there in their backyard. Once the saner minds found out the Nimitz was coming the gave up the sailors as they felt the arrival of the Nimitz is the beginning of the end for Irans reign of terror on their people.

YOu of course are up to speed on the internal revolution that is going on today? You know the people are trying desparately to overthrow the mullahs and take control of their destiny, yet just like the Kurds, they are being slaughtered at will while no one does anything to help them.

Iran was trying to make themselves appear to be humanitarians. I don't buy it, but it is just a ploy to let everyone know they their Third World Country is industrializing. You can contribute that to Ronald Reagan selling them weapons through the Bechtel corporation in 1983.

I think Iran won that round when the Brits failed to prevent the Iranians for kidnapping their people in the beginning.

Iran won because UK and the US was not able to attack them. It gained the respect of the international community for being brave enough to challenge the superpowers.

I think they both lost.

Iran reinforced the idea they are a bunch of nut cases.

England because their troops caved so quick (I say that but have never been in that position before so have no idea how I'd of handled it)
