You have a good point Warrior. There is an inate human tendency to choose the question that best reflects your own personal worldview. That is probably the case here most of the time.
But once in a while someone provides an answer that, for lack of a better word, provokes an epiphany of sorts in a reader. Personally, I remember the occassion when I read an answer from here that argued that the Philippines' main culprit is not necessarily the prevalence of corruption and graft in the government, but that it was really caused by the lack of a substantial middle class voting base. In democratic but otherwise corrupt countries like the USA and S. Korea, the presence of a middle class acts as a "control rod" to keep the interests of the wealthy at bay. That one answer made me see the light, and for once, I then understood the "whys" of the country's problems but more importantly, allowed me to path a way to solving these problems for the future.
IOW, it opened my eyes to another, better point of view, that I follow to this day.

Bini, for your own sake--stop with the spin control below. Your secret is out. I received a lot of email yesterday from respected members of this group, who know exactly what you're doing. Your credibility is very suspect at the moment. ....or at least tell your lapdog (Pres. Marcos) to back off his pathetic attempts to place 10 negative ratings on every one of my answers. It's getting rather sad, ya knowwadahmean, Verne?

I tend to choose the Best Answer that is the most thorough of all. Many people only give half answers, so I give my votes to the ones that give the most complete answer. I say "vote" because I have posted only about three questions since becoming a member, so I never had many chances to choose the Best Answer.
To be honest, there were times when I voted for my own answers, but this was because the answer I gave was better than the rest. I read first all the entries before deciding which to vote for. At other times, though, I voted for other people because they gave the better answers.
Another criteria for me, I usually don't vote for cut and paste answers, no matter how comprehensive they are. It's just not original.

Isn't that but natural, you choose it as best because you so agree with it. Why would you choose the one which repulses you? Well others do that (choosing the disagreeable answer) to get back to the answerer and take the oppurtunity to say mean things to them. Also, sometimes it depends on the question, like "needing help" questions where the most helpful answer gets chosen. So it doesn't matter what the basis for choosing is, we all are given that privilege to choose whatever kind of answer we want. That's our prerrogative.
Just answering ^_^ no mess intended.

I try to pick (when I remember that is) answers that are most informative, or truthful. I accept all answers as being helpful (when they are serious ones) and do put into consideration other peoples opinions, but I also understand that that is all it is, someone elses opinion. If I do not agree with them I choose ones that I can relate too.

It is just a matter of getting convinced by that person whose answer was chosen. I don't really believe that most of those askers who choose the answer to their questions simply base it on popularity or general approval but rather on the logic followed in presenting an argument.
What maybe the truth to one is not necessarily one based on reason.

i just know when i read one, and im also open to new ideas but when you choose the best answer you only choose the one you think is right di ba?we are all different so we cannot contest others opinion.best answer is best answer for the askers unless the askers and the best answerer is one and the same thats another story ... ;)

for as long as the answer is convincing, it will be the best. These days, to be honest, only a few give sensible responses and it makes choosing easier unlike before when I had to leave the choosing of best answers to people.

i've noticed a lot of the ladies choose best answer from guys who flatter them. i tend to go with the people i'm in contact with. this is all just for fun and entertainment so what does it matter.

warrior... too wise for your age. this is a very good question that i start questioning myself too. it is sometimes the answers that you can relate with or you know you can actually live with it. sometimes the answers you get is just a confirmation of what you believe in and to think that you're not the only one who thinks that way. but it's very refreshing to hear new ideas and opinions of other people.

One that is both enlightening and entertaining..... and that's the reason I chose not to pick the best answer to my question on rating various Asian people. Each answer was excellent in its own way.
