Basically, when I'm playing a song or watching a video on youtube, the audio crackles. I'd say I get normal audio about 85% of the time, but the rest of the time it throws in annoying sharp crack sounds that sound as if they're part of the song or audio file.

This problem occurs in headphones, too, it's not just the speakers, and it seems to adjust according to volume (the louder the volume, the louder the crack noises).

The listed sound card is "Realtek High Definition Audio", driver version 6.0.1.5334, dated 12/1/2006. So they're pretty new...

Just wondering if anyone has a solution as the Acer tech support site isn't too useful and I don't really want to take it back to the store if I can avoid it, just seems like a lot of hassle.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Humz. Actually that's the first thing I thought of, because my other laptop always did that -_-. But I appreciate the quick and great answer.

it probably has a built in microphone, you need to mute that first. It sometimes picks up the speakers audio and creates a bit of feedback. If not seriously consider having it checked...(under warranty right?)

Good luck, hope this helped.

Glad to see someone else is having the same problem, thought it was me.
I have been using a mac for years and had to buy a pc because the course Iam on will not work with a mac, now I remember why I decided to go for a mac :-)

I am also having additional problems:

When I click the mouse pad I get the click sound echoed also when I recieve emails and on start up - BUT I dont remember getting this on initial install of windows (it came with xp media centre not vista)
I wonder if this was caused with an autoupdate??
Also did anyone upgrade the ram, and was it better - I have 1gb ram (it came with 1gb ram)
Is Vista any better on the 5100??
I know one thing - as soon as my course is finished Im going back to a mac!!!
