Why has the gov. always been based in England?

King James VI moved to England when he succeeded Queen Elizabeth in 1603. when the union of parliaments came about in 1707 they shut up shop in Edinburgh and moved to London. Scotland recently got it's parliament back with devolved powers and if everybody votes for independence then there is a chance of there being independent government in Scotland again.

Well to begin with, it was just the English parliament. Scotland, Wales etc were additions so the UK's government remained in England (makes sense really). Personally, I think our capital and government should be somewhere in the middle. Birmingham, for instance. It's far to London centric at the moment.

Actually the government is based on a small island in Qtar. The one that is floating on oil.
