I believe a slide is when either the front wheels or the back wheels are sliding, while a drift is when all four wheels are sliding.

I may be wrong, because I think thinking in terms of Front wheel slide, rear wheel slide and four wheel drift.

Literal meaning of the drift and slide are given below:
Drift: A force that moves something along
Slide: The act of moving smoothly along a surface while remaining in contact with it
Drifting refers to a driving technique and to a sport based on the technique; this article deals primarily with the sport. A car is said to be drifting when the rear slip angle is greater than the front slip angle, and the front wheels are pointing in the opposite direction to the turn (e.g. car is turning left, wheels are pointed right), and the driver is controlling these factors.

Well, I'm not too sure myself, but I think that a slide occurs when the wheels are not moving. Eg, like when you jam on the brake and then the car slides sideways.

But a drift means that the wheels are still spinning when the slides occur. eg, when you mash on the accelerator at 1st gear, the wheels spin but the car is still in the same position (burning rubber).

A slide is when your car skids out of control while with a drift you are in control
